A viral video currently making rounds on X has set Nigerian social media on fire after exposing how LG-branded TVs are allegedly “manufactured” inside an informal workshop at Alaba Market, Lagos. And no, this one is not from South Korea it’s straight from street ingenuity.

What the Video Shows

‎‎In the clip, a group of men are seen inside a small workshop busily transforming plain, unbranded TVs into “LG originals.”

One guy is confidently printing LG logos onto TV cartons like it’s a cyber café job. ‎Another is modifying TV remotes, turning ordinary remotes into “original LG remote” within seconds. From carton to software, everything is getting a Lagos upgrade.

‎‎Basically, if branding was a sport, Alaba would be winning medals 🏅.

‎How the ‘LG’ TVs Are Allegedly Made

‎According to explanations circulating online, the process is simple:

‎Cheap, generic TVs are imported, mostly from China. LG-like software is installed, logos are added to cartons, remotes, and the TV interface. ‎Boom 💥 brand new “LG” TV ready for display.

‎‎While some argue these TVs can still perform basic functions, many agree that selling them as original LG products is where the problem is.

‎Not a New Problem, Just New Evidence

‎Fake or rebranded LG TVs have reportedly been an issue in Nigeria since at least 2020, especially in electronics hubs like Alaba Market.

Fake LG TVs in Nigeria

‎LG and consumer groups have long advised buyers to:
‎Verify model numbers, scan barcodes check official LG websites before paying

‎But as we can see… street version still dey run things 😬.

‎Nigerians React: Scam or Survival Hustle?

‎Online reactions are sharply divided:
‎Some people say it’s a dangerous scam that destroys trust and exploits buyers. ‎Others argue that the TVs are not “fake,” just brandless TVs wearing borrowed identity cards.

I don’t know if this person understands what fake is, but anyway a few even defended the sellers, saying not everyone can afford original LG and that the expose might be spoiling someone’s hustle.

Alaba Market fake LG TV

‎X Wahala Take

‎At this point, if your LG TV doesn’t come with:
Full documentation and Verified model number, You might just be watching “LG: Alaba Special Edition.”

‎The problem is not just about printing and selling it for those who can’t afford original LG Televisions, but selling it for almost the same price as the original one. Also, this might not end well for LG because it destroys brands identity.

If these TVs are as good as they said, why hide them under another brand’s identity and sell them at an inflated price?

The streets of X are not smiling, and yet again, another online fraud story has left people both heartbroken and furious.

A man recently took to the platform to share his ordeal after losing ₦250,000 to a woman who claimed she was into real estate.

According to him, they spoke on the phone, and she sounded genuine this wasn’t your typical catfish story.

He even shared her page and photos, urging people to help retweet and identify the scammer.

But the plot thickened. It turns out the girl whose photos were being used isn’t the scammer at all. In fact, the real lady whose face has now been circulated across X came online to clear her name.

She expressed her frustration, saying she’s been facing online harassment, threats, and even dangerous real-life consequences because of the fraudster using her identity.

According to her, this has been going on for weeks, and she has already reported the case to the police.

This scandal has since triggered heated conversations about the growing menace of identity theft on social media.

One user pointed out how these scammers deliberately target “clean-looking” individuals with quality photos to appear convincing. Others demanded stricter laws, suggesting 20 year jail terms for those found guilty of using someone else’s image for fraud.

It’s a double tragedy one person scammed and out of hard-earned money, and another person’s life thrown into chaos just for looking good online.

A blogger was recently scammed of his hard earned money too through Facebook ads scams.

What does this tell us?

In Nigeria’s digital age, where scamming tactics have become increasingly sophisticated, everyone needs to stay alert.

But more importantly, there must be real accountability and tech-enabled systems to trace and punish these cybercriminals. Until then, anyone can be a victim or be made to look like one.

Stay safe, verify and beware of strangers offering sweet deals online.
